You can't run the game on joiplay, I think that's because some of the important files are in the game's "archive.rpa" file
Tested it, works for me. You might want to check your plugins and see if you have Ren'Py 8.2.1 instead of 7.7.1
Renpy moved to Python 3 last year and it works a bit different. It's not a newer version of the launcher, but rather a different one.
Ren'Py 7.x.y supports Python 2

I went through every bit of this game I could, it took my whole morning, but i am not mad, this game was very worth playing and I'd love to see it updated more!
